Letting Go of Your Past So You Can Live Your Best Life Now

Writer: Eirian Naomi OmidEirian Naomi Omid

We all know “those” songs…

Ya know, the ones about the love lost.

They exist in every genre.

The one I used to connect with the most was Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.”

I feel like her words describe that ubiquitous phenomenon all to well and truly allow the listener to wallow in that heartbroken pity.

But, it’s good to move on.

It’s good to let go.

You can’t receive your blessings when you’re tightly clinging to the past.

So, I wrote a book about it. It’s called #SelfishSunday and it’s available at your favorite online book seller.

It’s one of the books I am most proud of. (I might possibly say that about all my books, but it’s true, I’m “most proud” of all of them. I’m genuinely happy they exist lol, that’s why I wrote them.)

See, #SelfishSunday was one of the hardest books for me to write because, even though it’s a work of fiction, the topic of a girl reliving her past brought me face to face with my own trauma.

I had to get up and write at 5AM every morning so that afterward I could “chill out” mentally before my family woke up, if I needed to.

But at the end of it all, it was a relief to have to address the things I went through in order to share that story and (hopefully) help the reader.

Because, the truth of the matter is that you cannot truly enjoy life — the present moment, and all it’s splendor — if you are thinking about, clinging to, or dwelling on the past.

The only way to live your “best life” is to ground yourself in the here and now; to allow yourself the gift that is the present.

Katy Perry remains one of my favorite artists because she seems to know this as well. All of her music is positive and uplifting, even when it’s about being sad or going through dark tunnels of life.

Her 2024 album, 143, won my heart because it is almost exclusively a celebration of strong, healthy love.

It even has a “love lost” song… so to speak.

The song is titled “All the Love” and the hook chokes me up just thinking about it.

“All the love that I ever lost, Came back to me. All the love that I ever lost, Came back to me. I was frozen, I was hopeless

Now there's poetry in every moment. All the love that I ever lost, Came back to me”

So, give yourself permission to live your best life. Let go of the past and live in the present. Allow all the love that you’ve put out in the universe to come back to you in a new, magickal form. And you will do just fine.
