On July 5, 2023, the Metaverse unveiled its new and shiny social app called Threads which was specifically designed to compete with X, formally known as Twitter.
And, at first, threads really seemed like a winning app. Upon its release, there wasn’t even a way to add hashtags to your posts.
But, the truth about this social app is that it is a needy ploy to try and get people to stop leaving Instagram.
Over the course of the last few years, Meta apps such as Facebook and Instagram have seen a massive decline in their user count. People who formerly built their businesses on these platforms, have even started leaving the apps because they do not get them the
results they need in order to successfully run a business.
I just never expected that Mark Zuckerberg would be so aggressive in trying to get people to stay on Instagram. Up until this point, none of the Meta apps required one to use the other.
Instagram and Facebook have always been separate kingdoms within the same universe.
Threads is not that considerate.
As of writing this article in February of 2024, there is no way to use Threads without being logged into Instagram.
Period. End of story.
Which is pretty genius, and diabolical when you take a step back and digest the concept.
I was fairly appalled when I made this discovery, and it did not work to the platform’s advantage.
Instead of switching from Instagram to Threads like I had planned, I removed myself from social media altogether.
We don’t need it anyways.
There are a million ways to connect with people other than the Metaverse — forums, personal websites, Discord servers, in-person clubs, etc.
It’s time to go back to all those various ways.
It's sneaky that's for sure!
